OBITUARY:
Bridget E. Sweeney of Woburn passed away peacefully Thursday morning at her home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. The cherished daughter of David and Cheryl (Casey) Sweeney, she was eleven years of age. Diagnosed four and a half years ago with medullablastoma, a type of brain tumor, Bridget underwent numerous treatments, including a stem cell transplant a year ago. She was in remission until this past Thanksgiving, when the cancer returned.
Bridget attended preschool at the Shamrock School and completed five years at the Wyman School before entering sixth grade at the Kennedy Middle School this past fall. She made the honor roll last term and was involved in Girl Scouts throughout her elementary school years. She played in Woburn Youth Soccer, attended St. Charles CCD and enjoyed meeting her friends at the Boys and Girls Club.
A positive, sweet, happy child, her bubbly personality would light up a room. She was a big fan of the Food Network on television, and loved to try out new recipes. She and her mother baked multiple batches of cookies on Christmas Eve, and just a few days later Bridget was hospitalized once again. She was able to return home to spend her final weeks with her family.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Jack Casey.
Surviving along with her parents, David and Cheryl Sweeney, are two brothers, Daniel and Brian, and a sister, Kate. She was also the beloved granddaughter of Thomas and Margaret Sweeney of Cambridge and Londonderry, New Hampshire, and Irene Casey of Braintree and South Boston, dear niece of Robert and Francis Sweeney, Patty Sweeney and Jen Nelson, Lisa and Chris Cook, Carol and John Costello, Jay and Michelle Casey, Tricia and Eric Hodge, and Jeanne Fahey, and loving cousin of Tracy Cornell, John and Erin Costello, Owen and Lena Cook, Michaela and Olivia Casey, Sam, Cullen, Maura, and Eliza Hodge. Bridget also leaves her best friend, Christina Langone, along with many other friends and classmates.
