OBITUARY:
Arthur F. Lentz, a resident of Lexington, passed away at the Pine Knoll Nursing Center in Lexington on Monday, January 18th, following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Edythe (Byrne) Lentz, who died in 1997.
Mr. Lentz was born in Ardara, Pennsylvania, son of the late Benjamin F. and Matilda (Phillips) Lentz. He lived in Pennsylvania until the age of fifteen, when he went to Chicago and began working for the Mars Candy Company. He worked for the company for forty-seven years before retiring at the age of sixty-two. He and his wife Edythe raised their family in the Chicago area, and after his retirement they took up residence in New Mexico. He and his wife lived there for nearly twenty years, and he remained in New Mexico following his wife's death in 1997. In 2006 he moved to Concord Park in Concord, MA to be near his daughter, and in recent months he had resided at Pine Knoll in Lexington.
A hard-working man, he was a part time farmer, raising crops and cattle in addition to his job with the Mars Company. In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling around the Southwest and visiting his children and grandchildren. An honest and generous man, he became adept at the fine art of living cheerfully, accepting the indignities of aging and always maintaining a sense of humor and kind spirit.
Along with his beloved wife Edythe, he was predeceased by his siblings: Raymond, Elmer, Charles, Allen, George, Willard, Edith, Martha, Mary, and Florence Lentz, and his dear friend, Laura Miller.
Surviving are a son, Charles A. Lentz and his wife Kathy of Nebraska, a daughter, Kathleen E. Lentz, MD, and her husband David Harvey of Westford, and four grandchildren: Timothy Lentz and his wife Elpidia Novoa-Lentz, and Mark, Sarah, and Jon Lentz.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, with burial in New Mexico. There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are being handled by the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, Woburn.
