Obituary
WILLIAM J. MARQUES - of Woburn and formerly of Somerville, on Friday, February 5th. Beloved husband of Phyllis J. (Russell) Marques. Loving father of William J. Marques, Jr. and his wife Joyce of PA, Paula A. Carroll and her husband Leonard of Bridgewater, James S. Marques and his wife Nancy of Wilmington, Cheryl A. McGah and her husband Martin of Woburn, Steven T. Marques and his wife Mildred of Pelham, NH, and the late John F. Marques. Dear father-in-law of Patricia Marques of Somerville. Devoted brother of Louise Baron and her husband Stan of Medford and the late Joseph Marques. Cherished grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Memorial Mass on Saturday, February 20th, at St. Barbara's Church,138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 11 a.m. Donations may be made in Mr. Marques's memory to the Salvation Army National Headquarters, 615 Slaters Lane, P.O. Box 269 Alexandria, VA 22313. Late member of the Lexington Police Deptartment.
OBITUARY:
William J. Marques passed away Friday, February 5th,after a lengthy illness, with his family by his side. The beloved husband of Phyllis J. (Russell) Marques, he was seventy-one years of age. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late John and Florence (Walsh) Marques. A graduate of Somerville High School, he furthered his education at Lowell State College where he attended the Police Academy Training Program.
Following the Academy, he was sworn in as a Police Officer in the town of Lexington, where he served proudly for many years.
In 1955, he married his long time sweetheart and neighbor, Phyllis Russell. They spent the next fifty five years together, raising their six children and then blossoming with sixteen grandchildren and later nine great grandchildren. Throughout their lifetime, family was always first. Together they would head north to the New Hampshire Mountains, Bar Harbor Maine, Lake George New York and their favorite trip to Mt. Washington yearly and spend a day on the boat. Family cookouts where held every Sunday throughout the summer months when all the aunts, uncles and cousins would join together and enjoy eating, swimming and playing games.
Mr. Marques was an avid fisherman a sport he also shared with his children. When he wasn't involved with the police department, or following the hectic schedule of family life, Mr. Marques would loved watching old movies and doing puzzles.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Marques was pre deceased by his son, John F. Marquis and his brother Joseph Marques.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of fifty five years, Phyllis J. (Russell) Marques, his children William J. Marques, Jr. and his wife Joyce of PA, Paula A. Carroll and her husband Leonard of Bridgewater, James S. Marques and his wife Nancy of Wilmington, Cheryl A. McGah and her husband Martin of Woburn, Steven T. Marques and his wife Mildred of Pelham, NH,daughter-in-law Patricia Marques of Somerville, his sister Louise Baron and her husband Stan of Medford and sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
