OBITUARY:
Mary M. (Galvin) Parsons passed away Saturday morning February 6th at the Woburn Nursing Center. The beloved wife of the late Thomas C. Parsons, she was 87 years of age.
Born in Malden she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Alice (Sampson) Galvin. She attended schools in Malden, graduating from Cheveris Centennial High School, Class of 1940.
She began working after high school, and in the early forties she was introduced to Tom Parsons, by a mutual friend from Winchester. In 1946 they were married in a " double wedding" ceremony where both she and her sister Alice joined their spouses in the same marriage ceremony, at the Sacret Hearts Church in Malden.
They made their residence in Winchester, where Mr. Parsons served as a Police Officer for thirty five years. Together they raised their four chidren, taking part in their activities as a Den Mother, Cub Scout Leader, CCD Teacher and actively involved in all their academic and sporting events. Summer times, they would venture north to NH, where many happy hours were spent with family and friends cooking out, boating, swimming and most importantly just enjoying each others company. For a number of years Mrs. Parsons worked with the Town of Winchester in the Comptrollers Office and weekends she would often be found helping out private companies with their bookeeping.
As the family grew older she and Mr. Parsons began to travel throughout the United States and Europe, making Ireland a favorite and frequent place to visit. They had also ventured out to sea on different cruise ships and had the distinct pleasure of being on the "Oceanic", when it was at that time, the largest ship on the seas.
For twenty two years she and her husband had the good fortune of being pretty healthy during their retirement years. They would spend half the year in Florida and the other in NH, with of course frequent visits to their home in Winchester.
She was very active in the Immaculate Conception Parish were she participated not only the CCD program but at the bazaar, assisting with the organization of the dances which were held quite frequently at the Parish Hall and any other area of the parish which needed help.
Mrs Parsons was a woman who took great pride in her family. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and later great grandchildren was always fun. Her sense of humor, being able able to find the goodness in everyone and delightful manner has left some very warm and lasting memories..
In addition to her parents and husband Tom, with whom she had spent fifty two years, she was was predeceased by her dear sister Alice MacDonald. She is lovingly survived by her children, Thomas F. Parsons and his wife Geraldine of Winchester, Kathleen A. Parsons and her husband Mark of Whitman, Elaine M. Phinney and her husband Dennis of CO, and John J. Parsons of Winchester.
