OBITUARY:
Bette J. Tolson, a resident of Woburn for many years, passed away at Winchester Hospital on Monday, July 26th, at the age of 81. She was the wife of the late Edward E. Tolson, who died in 1993.
Born and raised in Lincoln, New Hampshire, Bette was the daughter of the late Neal and Agnes (Boyle) Young. She devoted herself to raising her family, and worked throughout her life in a variety of positions. Most recently she worked as a waitress for the '99' Restaurant on Mishawum Road, where she was a familiar figure for many years. In earlier years she was employed by Data-Con as a wire wrapper, then the Record Wagon in Woburn, and later at the Menu, a restaurant on Commerce Way.
Bette loved yard sales and faithfully made the rounds every weekend after mapping out her route beforehand. In recent years she had made her home at 59 Campbell Street, where she was instrumental in organizing their Bingo games. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she was a loving and devoted "Gran" to all of them.
In addition to her husband Edward, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Paul, and Donald Young, and three sisters, Barbara Young, Marilyn Landry and Noreen Gray.
Surviving are five children: Brad N. Kinne and his wife, Dr. Sabrina Popp, of W. Roxbury, Michael E. Tolson and his wife Pamela, and Carol L. Rice and her husband Stephen, all of Woburn, Charles D. Tolson and his wife Joan of Medford, and John E. Tolson and his wife Lynne of Peabody, and nine grandchildren: James Kinne, Shaun, Sandra, and Meaghan Tolson, Eric, Andrew and Nicole Rice, and Edward and Benjamin Tolson. She was also the longtime friend of Connie Skrickus of Woburn.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Wednesday, July 28th, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be private.
Donations may be made in Bette's memory to Winchester Hospital, c/o Oncology Department, 41 Highland Avenue, Winchester, MA 01890.
