OBITUARY:
Roger J. Hines, a longtime Woburn resident, passed away at his home early Monday, July 26th, at the age of ninety. He was the husband of the late Gilda L. "GeeGee" Hines, who died just a few months ago.
Born and raised in Boston, he served in the Merchant Marines throughout the 1940's, during World War II. Following their marriage, he and his wife came to live in Woburn, first on Highland Street and later in East Woburn, where they remained. Early in his life Roger was employed by J.J. Reilly Leather Company, and later worked as a custodian for many years in the Woburn school system, primarily at the Joyce Middle School.
Roger and his wife Gilda, to whom he was devoted throughout their sixty years of marriage, enjoyed traveling. Together they took many road trips throughout the southern states to visit family and friends.
Roger is survived by a broother-in-law, Thomas Martin of Woburn, his sister-in-law, Judith Hall of North Carolina, and several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 28th at 9 a.m. at Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem Street, Woburn. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
There are no calling hours.
Donations may be made in Roger's memory to the charity of one's choice.
