OBITUARY:
Myrna D. Masse, a retired attorney with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a former history teacher at Woburn High School and Middlesex Community College, passed away early Wednesday morning at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester following an extended illness. She was seventy-three years of age.
Myrna was born in Woburn, the fourth of five children of the late Frederick A. and Mildred A. (Grimes) Masse. An exceptional student, she served as editor of the "Innitou," the Woburn High School yearbook, and graduated with the Class of 1956. She continued her education at Emmanuel College, earning her bachelor's degree in 1960. She was a highly regarded history teacher at Woburn High School for fourteen years, while continuing her studies toward a master's degree during the summers at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She later taught at Middlesex Community College for a number of years and completed her law degree at New England School of Law. Subsequently, Myrna worked as an attorney for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue until retiring. She was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Emmanuel College Alumni Association.
Myrna's infectious sense of humor, love of a good joke, and her outgoing personality served her well in both her teaching and law professions. She led an active and interesting life and was an avid golfer who also loved skiing, sailing, and dining with one of her many friends. Her other interests included working in her garden and knitting beautiful sweaters, dolls, and hats, many of which were given to her beloved nieces and nephews. Myrna experienced many memorable trips over the years throughout the United States and all over Europe, and was a talented photographer who amassed a wonderful collection of photographs. She spent summers in Harvard, Massachusetts, and lived there full-time for several years before moving to Venice, Florida, following her retirement.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frederick A. Masse, Jr.
Surviving are two brothers, Francis X. Masse and his wife Gail of Gloucester and David W. Masse and his wife Patricia of Arlington, a sister, Shirley A. Ryan and her husband Philip of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families.
The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, May 25th at 9:15 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Barbara's Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 10.
