OBITUARY:

Helen E. (Smith) McNicholas passed away Saturday, May 27th at Sudbury Pines in Sudbury, Massachusetts. The beloved wife of Michael J. McNicholas, she was eighty-three years of age.

Born in Waltham, she was the beloved daughter of the late John T. and Mabel F. (Billings) Smith. She grew up in Waltham and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School.

In 1951 she married her lifelong partner, Michael McNicholas. Married on June second of that year, they would have celebrated their sixty-first anniversary on Saturday.

In 1957 they bought a home in the West Side of Woburn, where they have remained. They brought two sons into the world, to whom Mrs. McNicholas was devoted. Following all of their sporting and educational happenings, she was kept quite busy over the years.

After the children had grown Mrs. McNicholas went to work at Lechmere in the accounting department. She also was a voracious reader who always enjoyed a good book. She was also a very active participant and member of St. Barbara's Church. Her faith was of utmost importance.

Throughout her lifetime she was a quiet woman who loved being in the company of her family and, when the grandchildren began arriving, she couldn't have been happier.

Family, faith and love were the essence of Mrs. McNicholas' being. Selflessly each day she gave of herself to her family, her faith and embraced it all with love.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her siblings, John T. and June Smith.

Surviving along with her husband Michael are two sons, Michael J. McNicholas, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Florida and John S. McNicholas and his wife Pamela of Plymouth. She was also the cherished grandmother of James R., Shawn B., Kayla E., and Kyle T. McNicholas.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Friday, June 1st at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara's Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 10. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home are on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
