OBITUARY:

Thomas F. "Kayo" Mullen, a resident of Woburn for most of his life, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Friday, June 1st, surrounded by his loving family. The husband of Dorothy A. (Frost) Morrison-Mullen for the past twenty-one years, he was 85.

Born and raised in Woburn, he was the son of the late Bartholomew and Madeline (McCarthy) Mullen. He attended St. Charles Elementary School and graduated from Woburn High School with the Class of 1944. A proud veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the US Navy following his graduation. He served as a signalman aboard the destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. during the war, traveling through the Panama Canal and South America.

Mr. Mullen worked for the US Postal Service for many years, initially in the Winchester office and later in Reading, retiring twenty years ago. He held membership in the Towanda Club, the Woburn Lodge of Elks, and the George Campbell Post 101 American Legion.

He met his wife Dorothy, a young widow with four children, thirty-eight years ago, and after a lengthy courtship they were married. They lived in Woburn until seven years ago, when they took up residence in Billerica. They shared a wonderful life together, enjoying winters in Panama City Beach, Florida for many years. Mr. Mullen was an avid golfer and led an active life until recent weeks. He was member of Amvets in Florida.

He had an infectious sense of humor and could always be counted on to entertain with his witty stories and jokes. A kind and generous gentleman, he contributed a great deal of his time volunteering for the Woburn Council of Social Concern's Food Pantry, and also assisted other seniors with transportation to medical appointments.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Bartholomew "Bert" Mullen, John "Moon" Mullen, a sister, Mary Sokoloski, and his brother-in-law and good friend, Kevin Kane.

Surviving along with his wife Dorothy are seven children: Thomas Mullen and his wife Fannie and Timothy Mullen, all of Florida, Terry Currier of New Hampshire, Lynne Conway and her husband Thomas, John Morrison and his wife Linda, and Tricia Hilliker and her husband Brad, all of Billerica, and Wayne Morrison and his wife Christine of Groton. He was the cherished grandfather of Cliff Currier and his wife Jackie, John and Brian Conway, Nicole and Eric Hilliker, Timothy Morrison and Dannielle Caruso.

He was the dear brother of Margaret O'Connor of Woburn, Anna Scroxton of Billerica, Jean McElhinney, Irene Konon, Charles Mullen, Grace Mullen, and Tricia Kane, all of Woburn, and brother-in-law of Margaret Mullen and Peg Mullen. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and their families.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, June 5th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will be private.
