OBITUARY:
Robert E. Jones, a well-known Woburn business owner, passed away Monday evening, June 4th, at Winchester Hospital after having been stricken at his home. He was the beloved husband of fifty-one years of Mary E. (Franson) Jones.
Born in Winchester and raised on Buckman Street in the South End of Woburn, he was the son of Grace (Gallagher) Reynolds of Woburn and the late Alfred Jones. He was educated in the Woburn school system, graduating from Woburn High School with the Class of 1960.
He and Mary, his high school sweetheart, married and settled in the South End of Woburn, where they raised their four children. Bob worked in his early years for the D.L. Maher Company, a well drilling and pump business, and in 1966 Bob opened his own artesian well business, American Artesian Well Company. He built the company from the ground up, building a reputation among his customers as being up front and honest throughout his business dealings. He enjoyed working alongside his son, Bob Jr., his son-in-law, John Rogers, and at one time his son Brian and grandson Bob also worked in the family business. Since Bob's retirement, his son and son-in-law, Bob Jr. and John Rogers, continue to operate the business successfully.
Golf was Bob's passion. He played regularly with the Winchester Elks Golf League and often went on golf outings with his friends. He was proud to have made a hole-in-one on the ninth green at the Woburn Country Club. Weekends and vacations at the family's home on Half Moon Lake in New Hampshire were memorable for the many peaceful hours relaxing by the lake with friends and family. Every Labor Day weekend, Bob organized the "Half-Moon Invitational," a tournament held at the Lochmere Country Club in Tilton, consisting of family members and friends A great time was had by all, culminating in a lobster fest at the Jones home, where a special trophy engraved with each winner's name was the coveted prize awarded.
Bob was a loving grandfather, known to his grandchildren as "Pa," and was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed his daily 5 a.m. breakfasts at Cousins in Woburn Center, where he would catch up on local news with his friends. Those who knew him will long remember his caring and generous nature and zest for life.
Preceding him in death, along with his father, was a sister, Carole Ann Nelson.
Surviving, along with his wife Mary and his mother, Grace Reynolds, are four children: Robert E. Jones, Jr. and his wife Jacquelyn and Kimberly A. Shooter and her husband John Gale, all of Burlington, Brian K. Jones and his wife Patricia of Melrose, and Heather E. Rogers and her husband John of Billerica, and two brothers, Alfred Jones of Falmouth and Richard Reynolds and his wife Joanne of Malden. He was the cherished grandfather of Kathryn, Robert III and Ashley Jones, Mark Shooter, Kyle and Shannon Jones, and Olivia and Jack Rogers. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Arthur Nelson of Woburn, and many nieces and nephews.
