OBITUARY:
Kenneth L. Govostes passed away at the Wingate Nursing Center in Reading after a brief illness. He was seventy six years of age.
The beloved son of the late Arthur and Sarah (Hawkins) Govostes, he was born in Woburn, one of seven children. A graduate of Woburn High School, Mr. Govostes began working in the shoe industry as a machinist. Beginning in Stoneham at Marilyn Sandal he later went to General Tire and Rubber as a machinist and had spent the last fifteen years of his career at PCD in Peabody, as a Quality Control Manager, retiring in 2002.
Throughout the years, actually beginning when his children were small he began photographing them. He had set up his own "blackroom" in the basement of his home where he would develop every photograph. Lots of pictures of his family and portraits of family and friends, adorned his home for many years. He also was an avid collector of cars and had possesion of a classic thunderbird convertable.
When he moved to Reading over forty five years ago he was very proud of his craftsmanship displayed in the building of his home. There was truly not too much that Mr. Govostes couldn't do with his hands and do it beautifully.
Amongst all that Mr. Govostes accomplished in his lifetime the greatest were his four children. Throughout his lifetime he devoted himself to his children, their achievements and accomplishments, and with the arrival of his four grandchildren, he felt very truly blessed.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his daughter Donna Jean Govostes, his sister Mary Santo Weldon and brothers Arthur, Norman and Donald Govostes and sister in law Kathleen Govostes. He is the beloved father of Linda Govostes-O'Neil and her husband Timothy of Wakefield, Diane Beland and her husband Alan, Kenneth Govostes Jr. all of NH. Dear brother of Walter Govostes of Stoneham, Barbara Uliano and her husband Robert of Wakefield, William Govostes and his wife Joanne of Woburn.
