Devoted father of Gerard Murphy of NH, Colin Murphy, Caitlin Murphy, both of Edgartown, and Courtney Murphy of Woburn. Dear brother of James H. Murphy, William P. Murphy and his wife Sharon, Kevin Murphy, and Mary Hanson, all of Woburn. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Thursday, July 12th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Calling hours on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment is private. Donations may be made in Mr. Murphy's memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.

OBITUARY:

John J. “Jackie” Murphy III passed away at his home Sunday morning, July 8th amongst his lovingly devoted family. The beloved husband of Kathryn (Pike) Murphy , he was sixty two years of age.

Born in Woburn , he was the son of the late John J. Jr. and Mary C. (Day) Murphy. He attended Woburn High School and was a graduate from Woburn High School, Class of 1967. During his high school years “Jackie” as he was known, was an outstanding hockey and tennis player.

Following high school he began working at Epsilon Computer Co. in Burlington for a good number of years and then for the last twenty five years he had been employed at the Boston Flower Exchange.

A warm, caring man, Jackie was a good friend and very devoted husband and father. Over the last twenty three years they spent almost every weekend in Waterville Valley New Hampshire where he took part in activities throughout all four seasons. Swimming, golfing, hiking, skiing, canoeing and fishing were all very accomplished areas in Jackie’s life, and of his family. Even just a walk in the woods was a wonderful time spent with family. He had recently, in the last year or two checked off traveling to Florida on a train. He had traveled by car then plane , now by train, he loved it!

A traveler, jokster, avid golfer were all things Jackie did and did well, but the love for his family is what was all encompassing in his life and has a legacy which will long be remembered.

Mr. Murphy was predeceased by his parents, John J. Murphy, Jr. and Mary C. (Day) Murphy.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Kathryn (Pike) Murphy of Woburn, his children, Gerard Murphy of NH, Colin Murphy, Caitlin Murphy, both of Edgartown, and Courtney Murphy of Woburn, his brothers, James H. Murphy, William P. Murphy and his wife Sharon, Kevin Murphy, his sister, Mary Hanson, all of Woburn and also by many loving nieces and nephews.
