Photo of Joseph A. JOSEPH A. "JAY" MURPHY III - age 54, of Woburn, July 10th. Beloved son of the late Joseph A. and Rochelle P. (Mauromatis) Murphy. Dear brother of Denise J. Higgins and her husband John of Woburn, Lisa Murphy of Gloucester, and the late Robert J. Murphy. Uncle of Philip Higgins, Melissa Koster and her husband Michael, and Kimberly Higgins. Also survived by three grandnephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, July 16th, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. There are no calling hours.

OBITUARY:

Joseph A. "Jay" Murphy III, a longtime Woburn resident, passed away at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on Tuesday, July 10th, following a lengthy illness. The son of the late Joseph A. and Rochelle P. (Mauromatis) Murphy, Jr., he was fifty-four years of age.

Jay was born and raised in Woburn and attended Woburn schools. Following high school he joined the Army and was stationed in Hawaii at the Schofield Barracks. Following his honorable discharge, Jay went to work for the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, where he remained for a number of years.

Along with his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his brother, Robert J. Murphy.

Survving are two sisters, Denise J. Higgins and her husband John of Woburn and Lisa Murphy of Gloucester. He also leaves a nephew, Philip Higgins, and two nieces, Melissa Koster and her husband Michael, and Kimberly Higgins, and three grandnephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, July 16th, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
