OBITUARY:
Frederick O. Levesque of Woburn passed away at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester on Tuesday, July 17th, following a lengthy illness. The husband of the late Marion L. (Cooper) Levesque, he was eighty-seven years of age.
Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Joseph and Concorde (Doyle) Levesque. He graduated from a French school in Cambridge, Our Lady of Pity. A proud veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943 until his honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1947. A member of the 858th Bombardment Squadron, he saw action in the European air offensive, Normandy, Northern France, Germany and Central Europe.
Following the war, Fred and his wife Marion lived in Cambridge, later moving to Woburn in 1967. He worked throughout his life as a milkman, first for Whiting Milk Co. as a wholesale driver, and later for HP Hood for many years.
Fred was a very social gentleman who looked after everyone. He was a tenant representative for the Woburn Housing Authority, both at Campbell Street and Library Place, and was always on hand to help his neighbors. He was instrumental in organizing the annual Mayor’s Dinner and Thanksgiving Dinner for seniors, ensuring the guest list was up to date for both events. He also volunteered many hours at the Woburn Senior Center, and in earlier years held membership in the VFW in Reading.
A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, lovingly known as “Pépère,” he taught his grandchildren to swim and enjoyed attending all their sports events and school activities, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Along with his beloved wife Marion, who died twenty-eight years ago, almost to the day, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Levesque, a sister, Suzanne Fagan, and a sister-in-law, Mary (Mrs. Raymond) Levesque.
Surviving are his daughters, Cheryl Breen and her husband Robert of Woburn and Janet Bucceri and her husband James of Burlington, four brothers, Paul and his wife Mary, André and Raymond, all of Somerville and Ronald of Attleboro, his sister-in-law, Jean (Mrs. Lawrence) Levesque) of New Hampshire, and two grandchildren, Katelyn and Robby Breen. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and their families, many dear cousins, and his longtime companion, Josephine Hullinger of Woburn.
The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, July 23rd at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 10. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Monday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., prior to the Mass. Interment will take place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
Donations may be made in Fred’s memory to Friends of Woburn Veterans, 144 School Street, Woburn, MA 01801, for the memorial wall in Woburn Common.
