OBITUARY:
Edward R. “Ted” Harvey passed away Friday, July 20th after a brief illness. The beloved husband of Meredith (Langill) Harvey, he was 82 years of age.
Born in Boston, “Ted,” as he was affectionately known, was one of five children of the late Russell and Marjorie (Jarvis) Harvey. Raised in Lexington, he attended Boston Trade High School, graduating with the Class of 1949. Upon graduating, Ted began his career as a sheet metal mechanic, Local 17.
In the early 1950’s Ted had the good fortune of meeting the love of his life, Meredith Langill, through his best friend. Charlie Locke. Meredith and Ted were married in August of 1952 and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary next month. They built their family home in the “Glen” on the West Side of Woburn and moved in after their wedding. They were very devoted to each other and brought six wonderful daughters into the world, all of whom Ted was very proud of. As a family, the Harvey’s enjoyed camping and cross country adventures. Every Sunday was special as they would climb into the car for their weekly visit to Wyman’s Beach in Westford. In later years, Ted enjoyed weekends at various county fairs in New Hampshire, always looking forward to the horse pulling events.
Family was most important. He thoroughly enjoyed all the time and activities spent with his daughters, and as time moved on, with his grandchildren. Throughout his lifetime his family came before anyone or anything. Always there helping in any way possible. Christmas Eve at Grampie’s house was the best. Enjoyed by all the children and grandchildren Ted made sure to make the night so very special for all to enjoy.
Ted’s love of his family was greater than anything. He was never afraid to say “I love you,” always expressing his love vocally. He was very giving and a great husband, father, and grandfather. For the past several years, Ted had shown his loyalty and love for his wife. Taking care of her at home and giving her the all the tender loving care necessary.
Ted enjoyed woodcarving. When Christmas, birthdays or just an ordinary day he would surprise family members and friends with one of his fine carvings. He was a member of the American Legion, the Moose, and the Minutemen.
In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by his brothers, Roy and Stanley Harvey and his sister, Jean Hill.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Meredith (Langill) Harvey, his daughters, Carol Collins and her husband Tom, Linda Bramley and her husband Peter, Susan Medeiros and her husband Russell, all of Woburn, Beverly Bradley of New Hampshire, Joan O'Reilly and her husband Peter of Woburn, and Gail Tobin of Colorado, his brother, Bruce Harvey and his wife Alice of Concord, his sister-in-laws, Nancy Harvey of TX, Betty Harvey of Cape Cod, Arlene Johnston of Burlington, and Dorothy Metrano of Woburn, his grandchildren, Karl, Kevin, and Keil Collins, Sarah and Christopher Bramley, Lindsay and Kimberly Medeiros, Caitlin, Heather, and Jessica O'Reilly, and Edward and Rebecca Tobin and great-grandchild Kendall Bramley.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Service at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, July 25th at 10 a.m. Calling hours on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment is private.
