OBITUARY:

Ronald J. Dougherty of Woburn passed away peacefully at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford on Sunday, July 30th, at the age of ninety-two. He was the beloved husband of Leona M. "Lee" (Dustin) Dougherty for the past sixty-two years.

Born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Mary I. (Rafferty) Dougherty. He was raised in Calais, Maine and attended Calais Academy and St. Stephen's High School, graduating in 1936. He attended Holy Rosary Business School before going to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Bar Harbor, Maine. A proud veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations.

He and his wife Leona were married in 1950 and took up residence on Woburn's West Side. Ron worked for the General Electric Company as a welder for aircraft components, retiring after thirty-nine years. He and his wife retired to Acton, Maine, where they enjoyed the outdoor life. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed boating and hunting, often pursuing these activities with his son Ron. Several winters were spent in Brooksville, Florida, and they also enjoyed several trips to Arizona and the Caribbean.

Along with his wife Lee, Ron leaves his son, Ronald A. Dougherty and his wife Elaine of Woburn, his brother, Lawrence "Larry" Dougherty of Woburn, and three grandchildren, Briana, Alaina, and Meagan Dougherty. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Wednesday, August 1st at 9:15 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Barbara's Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 10. Interment with military honors will take place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
